Your Care Starts With
Understanding You
Visiting a new chiropractor should not feel confusing. At Lake City Chiropractic, we want you to understand what we are doing, why we are recommending it, and what you can expect as you move through your care.
Every patient comes to us for a different reason. You may be dealing with a recent injury, ongoing back or neck pain, a bulging or herniated disc, or a problem that has gradually started interfering with your everyday life.
Your care begins with understanding what is bothering you and determining what may be contributing to the problem. From there, Our doctors can recommend a plan based on your individual needs and goals.
Your First Visit
Your first appointment gives us an opportunity to learn more about you and what brought you to Lake City Chiropractic.
We will ask about your symptoms, health history, previous injuries, and how the problem is affecting your daily activities. Our doctors will then perform an examination based on your concerns.
Depending on your condition, your evaluation may include looking at areas such as:
- Posture
- Range of motion
- Joint movement
- Strength
- Mobility
- Areas of pain or tenderness
- Muscle tension
- Neurological function when appropriate
If additional testing or imaging is needed, Our doctors will explain why and discuss the next step with you.
Understanding Your Results
Once we have gathered the information needed to better understand your condition, Our doctors will discuss the findings with you.
This is an important part of your visit. We want you to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and why a particular type of care is being recommended.
You will also have an opportunity to ask questions about your condition, treatment options, and what you can expect moving forward.
If treatment at Lake City Chiropractic is appropriate, we will develop a plan based on your needs.
Your Treatment Plan
There is no set treatment schedule that is right for every patient.
Your recommendations will depend on your condition, how long you have been experiencing symptoms, the severity of the problem, your physical limitations, and what you want to accomplish.
Depending on your needs, your treatment plan may include:
- Chiropractic care
- Physical therapy
- Spinal decompression
- Stretching and strengthening exercises
- Mobility exercises
- Other appropriate therapies
Your treatment plan may also change as you progress. We will continue to evaluate how you are responding to care and make adjustments when appropriate.
The Three Phases of Chiropractic Care
While every patient’s treatment plan is different, chiropractic care can generally be thought of in three phases.
You may not need every phase in the same way, and the amount of care needed will depend on your individual condition and goals.
Relief Care
Helping You Start Feeling and Moving Better
When pain is the reason you come to our office, the first goal is often to address your immediate symptoms and help you move more comfortably.
During this phase, care may focus on reducing irritation, improving joint movement, addressing muscle tension, and helping you perform everyday activities with less difficulty.
We will also pay attention to how your symptoms respond to treatment. As your condition changes, your care can change with it.
Corrective & Restorative Care
Building on the Progress You Have Made
Feeling better is important, but pain is not the only thing we consider when evaluating your progress.
Depending on your condition, the next phase of care may focus more on improving mobility, strength, flexibility, movement, and physical function.
Physical therapy, therapeutic exercises, chiropractic care, or other treatments may be incorporated based on your needs.
The goal is to build on the progress you have already made and address physical limitations that may still be affecting your everyday activities.
Wellness & Ongoing Care
Supporting the Progress You Have Made
Once your original problem has improved, you can talk with Our doctors about what makes sense moving forward.
Some patients choose to continue periodic chiropractic or wellness care based on their lifestyle, activity level, and personal goals. Others may return when a new concern develops.
Ongoing care is a personal decision. We will discuss your options with you so you can decide what works best for your needs.
How Long Will I Need
Chiropractic Care?
One of the most common questions patients have is how long treatment will take.
There is no single answer that applies to everyone. Someone who recently developed mild discomfort may have very different needs from someone recovering from an auto accident or dealing with a problem that has been present for years.
Your care will depend on factors such as:
- Your condition
- The severity of your symptoms
- How long the problem has been present
- Your health history
- Your physical activity
- Your response to treatment
- Your individual goals
We will discuss your progress with you throughout your care so you understand where you are and what we recommend next.
What Should I Wear to My Appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily during your examination.
Depending on the reason for your visit, Our doctors may need to evaluate how you bend, turn, walk, or perform certain movements.
If you have previous imaging, medical records, or other information related to the condition you are being seen for, let our office know when scheduling your appointment.
We Want You to Ask Questions
You should feel comfortable understanding your care.
If you are unsure why a treatment is being recommended, how something works, or what you should be doing between appointments, ask us.
Our goal is to make sure you understand your condition and feel informed about the decisions being made regarding your care.
